The 11th edition of the Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace (LIMA) exhibition 2011 was held from the 6th to the 10th of December on the tropical island of Langkawi, Malaysia. Jet Thrust Aviation Images was on the scene to capture the sights and sounds.

This Typhoon was part of a 4-aircraft detachment that had deployed to RMAF Butterworth for ExerNamed ‘Spirit of Go For Broke’, C-17A 05-5152 is operated by the 15th Airlift Wing, with the 154th Wing, Hawaii Air National Guard as an associate unit.RSAF Fokker 50 UTAs make a daily morning shuttle flight between Singapore and Langkawi throughout LIMA 2011, ferrying show visitors and personnel who are involved in the exhibition.In the markings of VFA-106 Gladiator, this United States Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet was brought in as a demonstrator for Boeing's proposal to the RMAF's MRCA program.One of 6 delivered in February 2011, this twin-seater JAS-39D Gripen of the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) attracted much attention at the airshow. The RTAF will operate 12 of these by 2013, with possiblA pair of Royal Thai Air Force 701 Sqn Gripens position and hold on the runway prior to their departure back home to Surat Thani Air Base. 701 Sqn was only recently declared fully operational with theAn Armée de l’Air Rafale taxis out for an evaluation flight with an RMAF pilot in the backseat. The Rafale is one of the contenders in the Malaysian MRCA competition.A Royal Malaysian Navy AS555SN Fennec makes a landing at Langkawi Airport. The fleet of six choppers fulfill a variety of roles from naval air crew training to MediEvac and even over-the-horizon-targeDelivered in 1997, RMAF’s 8 F/A-18D Hornets are slated to undergo a mid-life upgrade, bringing them to a standard comparable to the Super Hornets.The relatively new MB-339CM, along with surviving examples of the Hawk Mk.108 (one pictured at the back), serve as Lead-In Fighter Trainers for the RMAF.Owned by the Republic of Singapore Navy but operated by the RSAF, one of the 6 S-70B Seahawks was present as a static exhibit.Sikorsky’s S-92 demonstrator made a stop at LIMA 2011 on her ‘Legacy of Heroes’ tour.
