Flashback Friday #1
January 14, 2016 • 1 Comment
I have been shooting aviation subjects for a good 12 years now and have amassed quite an archive. We will put up a photo from the collection every other Friday or so just for old times' sake.
The flight deck of USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) whilst on a port call at Changi Naval Base, Singapore, on 7 February 2005. U.S. Navy (USN) Carrier Strike Group Nine, led by the carrier, had just wrapped up a month-long humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operation in the Aceh Province, Sumatra as part of Operation Unified Assistance in the wake of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. Embarked onboard was Carrier Air Wing Two (CVW-2) which flew 1,737 humanitarian relief missions in support of the operation.
Fronting the image are three EA-6B Prowlers — BuNos 163035 (CAG), 164401 and 159911 — from the Electronic Attack Squadron 131 (VAQ-131) “Lancers”. The Lancers have since transitioned to the EA-18G Growlers in April 2015 and the USN has withdrawn its last Prowlers from service in June the same year.

I was wondering if we could use this photo for a news report. I work for Crane Naval Station Public Affairs and we are having a dedication ceremony for BUNO 164401. That particular aircraft is now a monument located on station at NSWC Crane. We would like some pictures of it while it was in commission.
