Jet Thrust Aviation Images would like to wish Singapore a Happy 50th Birthday!
The following two images from this year's National Day Parade aerial display segment were taken during one of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)'s internal rehearsals in June when light conditions were way more optimal than the rehearsals held over the past few weeks and the actual event this evening.
Taken together, the aerial display of 50 operational aircraft — not counting the spares — is more than a presentation of precision flying and aerial finesse, but also a demonstration of military air might by a country that did not have an air force just 50 years ago.
A twenty-ship formation of F-16C/D/D+ from all Singapore-based F-16 squadrons form the impressive “50” Formation. The "5" is composed of F-16D+ from 145 Squadron while the "0" by F-16C/Ds from 140 and 143 Squadrons. At a media event, Lieutenant Colonel Chan Ching Hao, Flight Lead of "50", responded to a query from this site on the trail-in format rather than the more traditional landscape format, "We factored in the airspace considerations, the complexity of the formation and also the amount of exposure we could get. We'd taken all these into consideration and have settled on the lead trial formation." © Roy Choo
