Four Mirage 2000-5s from the Republic of China Air Force (RoCAF) were amongst a number of fighters tasked to provide escort to Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou's flight on his trip to Singapore to attend the landmark China-Taiwan meeting on November 7. The jets, consisting of two single-seat Mirage 2000-5EI and two double-seat Mirage 2000-5DI, were from the 499th Tactical Fighter Wing, based at Hsinchu Air Base. RoCAF F-16A/Bs and F-CK-1s also took turns to provide escort till President Ma's chartered China Airlines A330 departed Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) and entered Philippine airspace.
Such escort missions are commonplace whenever the President is onboard a flight.
